Kapre is a towering, tree-dwelling cryptid often described as a hulking, ember-eyed giant that prefers the dark arms of old trees. Field notes: Smell — a heavy, sweet cloud of tobacco and damp earth, as if a long-smoked cigar lingers in every clearing; Sound — slow, wood-split breaths, the creak of branches under great weight, and a low, amused chuckle that seems to come from high in the canopy; Temperature — the air near its favored tree feels warmer and oddly still, like standing beside an ember on a cool night.
