Karkadann

Karkadann is a towering, horned desert beast—more muscle than myth—recorded in Persian and South Asian lore as a dangerous solitary grazer. Smell: a dry, metallic tang like iron filings mixed with sun-baked dust and old animal musk. Sound: a low grinding exhale, the thunder of heavy hooves, and at times a high, reed-like wail that carries across scrub. Temperature: radiates dry heat; the air around it feels warmer, the earth beneath its feet cracked and sun-scorched. A field naturalist notes its hide is coarse and pitted, its single horn thick and ridged, and it moves with the deliberate force of a boulder on legs.
