Qiqirn

Qiqirn is a spirit-beast of the arctic night, spoken of as a large, dog-like presence whose approach is more felt than fully seen. In the field it announces itself by a metallic, ozone-tinted chill that raises the hairs on the neck and the fur of sled dogs; the air carries a faint, stale tang—like old seal fat left beside an ember. The most revealing sound is a thin, high whine or chitter, layered under the unsettled chorus of canines; on calm nights that whine seems to bend and echo across ice. Temperature falls noticeably where it passes, a prickling cold that clings to faces and fingertips. Observers note an uncanny stillness following the noise, as if the world holds its breath.
