Gumiho: The Nine-Tailed Fox Who Devours Hearts and Livers
She appears on the lonely mountain path at dusk—a woman of breathtaking beauty, with porcelain skin and a smile that promises everything you've ever wanted. "Please," she says, her voice like silk. "Can you help me? I am lost." You, being kind or foolish, say yes. But if you looked closer—if you weren't so hypnotized—you'd notice. Her shadow has nine tails. Her skin is unnaturally cold. And beneath the perfume of flowers, there's a faint smell of wet fur. This is the Gumiho, the Nine-Tailed Fox.
The Predator
Unlike the fox spirits of other lands, the Korean Gumiho is almost always a monster. She has lived for a thousand years, gaining a tail for every century of life. She is not looking for love. She is hunting. Her goal is simple: to consume human livers. Some say she needs 100 livers to become human. Others say she eats them simply to sustain her immortality. She seduces men, lures them into isolation, and then rips the organ from their living body.
The Fox Bead
Her power source is the Fox Bead (Yeowoo Guseul). It is a glowing marble that holds her life force and knowledge. Sometimes, she plays a dangerous game with her victims. She will kiss a man, passing the bead into his mouth, then take it back with her tongue. She does this to absorb his energy. If a man is smart enough to swallow the bead... he will gain the wisdom of the earth. But the Gumiho will hunt him to the ends of the earth to get it back.
Keeper's Log: The Warning
The Gumiho is the ultimate test of instinct over desire. Every part of your brain will scream that she is perfect. She is your dream woman. But your dog will growl. Your skin will crawl. Trust the dog.
The Final Warning
If someone seems too perfect on a lonely road... check for the tails.
