Lore

Garuda is a Deity of the sky: a vast, leonine-eagle figure that moves like a living sunbeam across the horizon. Field-naturalist notes record a body of braided muscle beneath bronze-hued feathers, a hooked beak like a carved crescent, and eyes that reflect cloud and fire. Smell: a sharp ozone tang braided with warm, honeyed saffron. Sound: the rolling, low thunder of wingbeats and the distant clatter of wind on metal. Temperature: the air around it carries the dry heat of high noon, as if a patch of clear sky has been warmed and set down. Encounters are brief but unforgettable — a shaft of gilded plumage, the shadow of a silhouette large enough to block the sun, and then a radiance that lingers where it passed.

Field Notes

Observations
  • A sudden golden halo against the sun, warm saffron-tinged wind, and a low, thunderous wingbeat that dims the light.
Encounter Advice
  • taboo: Do not attempt to bind, enslave, or ride Garuda without clear consent; avoid invoking its name flippantly or using its image as a curse. Refrain from displaying serpent regalia (Naga symbols) in its presence — what honors one may provoke another.
  • reverence: Honour is shown beneath open sky at dawn: offerings of flowers and incense, a sun-facing gesture, and vows to protect the vulnerable. Songs, clear speech, and acts of shelter for travelers draw favor; sacrifices of greed or deceit invite distance.
  • offering: Fresh flowers (jasmine, marigold), saffron or incense at sunrise, symbolic golden feather or a promise to aid travelers and the oppressed.

Abilities

  • Naga-Sunder
A mythic strike that rends and devours serpents whole, converting their venom into regenerative strength and immediate anti-venom for allies.
  • Sunlit Updraught
Beats immense, solar-charged wings to summon cleansing hurricane winds that strip poison, disperse mists, and fling foes from the sky.
  • Amrita Interception
Seizes divine nectars or concentrated blessings mid-transit, absorbing or redirecting their effects to empower itself or deny them to others.
  • Vishnu's Aegis
Projects a brief, radiant guardian field around a chosen rider or ally, warding off curses and most venomous attacks for a short duration.

Weaknesses

  • Naga Conspiracy
Centuries of enmity make serpents prone to cunning traps and layered curses that exploit his hunger and draw him into ambushes.
  • Oath-Bound Service
Sacred duties and vows (notably service to Vishnu) can prevent Garuda from intervening freely, limiting responses to certain conflicts.
