Lore

Huangdi is a Deity rooted in the heartland — felt more as an ordering presence than a figure. In the field he arrives like warm loess after rain: the air takes on a dry, earthen warmth that settles in the chest rather than the skin. Smell: cedar, crushed millet, and a faint ribbon of incense that carries mineral undernotes. Sound: a low bronze-bell hum, the distant pattern of flutes and ritual drums, and the hush that follows footsteps on courtyard stone. Temperature: centered, sun-warmed and steady, never scorching but insistently bright. Notes: when his trace is strong, maps seem easier to read, herbal names fall more readily from memorized tongues, and the horizon bends toward order.

Field Notes

Observations
  • A curling ribbon of yellow mist at dawn or the sudden, ceremonial stillness in a village courtyard.
Encounter Advice
  • taboo: Never desecrate yellow cloth or ancestral tablets associated with the center; do not mock or publicly deny the rites that claim his name; avoid claiming his mandate for trivial ends.
  • reverence: At sunrise present simple offerings (millet, jade, or incense) at a central place of honor, speak petitions with humility and precise names, and observe rites that acknowledge balance and the care of the land.
  • offering: Millet, jade or stone carvings, bundles of cedar or sandal incense, and written vows placed on yellow paper at dawn.

Abilities

  • Yellow Dragon Manifestation
Summons and becomes the Yellow Dragon of the center to reshape earth, call earthquakes or calm geomantic lines and physically ascend to heaven.
  • Meridian Weave
Reads and alters a living body's meridians to heal, poison, extend life, or knot a foe's vital channels with a single touch or needle.
  • South-Pointing Guidance
Invokes the south-pointing device and ancestral mandate to dispel illusions, reveal true paths and unmask rebel counsels across fog and sorcery.

Weaknesses

  • Loss of the Tripod Cauldrons
Separation from the imperial ding (Nine Tripods) severs his tangible claim to the Mandate and dramatically reduces his ability to bind lands and people.
  • Severing of the Yellow Dragon Bond
If the Yellow Dragon is slain, exorcised or ritually expelled, his capacity for earthly transformation and ascent is crippled until the bond is reforged.
  • Desecration of Ancestral Tablet
A specific profanation—burning or stomping the tablet kept at his chief shrine—breaks local piety and weakens his influence over those cults and their magic.
