Lore
Samjogo is a Cryptid beast of the high ridgelines: a broad-shouldered, thick-furred herbivore with a low, luminous mane and hooves that sound like falling stones. Smell: a metallic tang of iron and cold rain over crushed cedar and lichen. Sound: deep, resonant grunts and a rubbing that resembles wind through slate—close encounters begin with the hush of broken twig and a long, low thrumming from its chest. Temperature: despite the thin, sharp air of its alpine haunts, its flank gives off a dry warmth, like a living hearth beneath a snow-bleached ridge. Field notes record the creature as deliberate and steady, a presence that alters the micro-ecology where it grazes, stripping lichens into neat crescents and leaving bright hair tangled on scrubby juniper.

Field Notes
Observations
- A curved band of flattened lichen and dwarf-sedge forming a semicircle, accompanied by wide, oval hoofprints with a shallow central groove.
Encounter Advice
- avoidance: Do not pursue or encircle. If you spot fresh prints or a semicircle of eaten lichen, leave the area by the same route you came and avoid sudden movements that might be read as a challenge.
- defense: If a Samjogo charges in defense, seek vertical cover (boulder, tree) and present non-threatening posture—do not stare or shout. Retreat slowly once it halts; it rarely gives prolonged chase.
- behavior: Primarily crepuscular and solitary, Samjogo graze along scree terraces and sheltered ledges. They migrate short distances with the seasons, favoring exposed lichens and hardy alpine shrubs. Normally avoidant of humans, they investigate persistent scents and will defend a favored feeding terrace fiercely if surprised or trapped.
- interaction: Approach only at dawn or dusk, downwind and visibly slower than it moves. Speak softly, do not attempt to touch the mane. Leave an offering on a flat stone at the edge of its feeding semicircle—salt to taste or a small pile of dried berry-moss—and withdraw to observe from a concealed position.
- offering: A pinch of coarse salt or a flat stone topped with dried alpine berries and crushed lichen will often calm a curious Samjogo and buy time for respectful observation.
Abilities
- Triple-Sun BeaconAligns its three legs to focus and unleash a concentrated pillar of sunlight that blinds, scorches, or reveals hidden things in a narrow area.
- Dawn OmenPerching at sunrise upon a standard or crown, it bestows uncanny luck and rallied morale on leaders and armies for the coming day.
- Solar TransitRides solar currents at dawn to traverse vast distances quickly, appearing as an immediate omen in far-off courts.
Weaknesses
- Lunar Eclipse / True UmbraDuring a true solar eclipse or sustained heavy cloud cover its solar abilities collapse and it becomes sluggish and listless.
- Polished Bronze MirrorA highly polished bronze mirror can reflect its Triple-Sun Beacon back, disorienting and temporarily blinding the Samjogo.
- Leg Bindings (Iron or Custom Clamps)Specifically crafted iron shackles or leg clamps designed for birds can restrain its three legs and prevent its focused sunwork.
