Blue Men of the Minch

Blue Men of the Minch are sea-fae reported in the narrow straits between the Outer Hebrides and the Scottish mainland. They carry the clean, sharp tang of brine and crushed kelp, with a faint metallic note like ship's iron; their chorus is the clearest sensory cue — a deep, rolling chant that answers the sea itself in short rhymed lines. The air near them takes on a sudden, biting cold that slicks wood and chills fingers, and their presence often arrives with the smell of wet rock and a rhythm of waves that sounds almost like multiple voices speaking from beneath the water. Field-naturalist note: they favor dusk, squall-lines, and the lee sides of isolated vessels, surfacing as rounded blue heads or low, buoyant shapes riding swell.
