Djaran-ngirriny

Djaran-ngirriny is a low, water-born cryptid-spirit most often encountered along slow tidal creeks and reed-lined billabongs. In the field it reads as something half-present: the air tastes of wet mud and crushed pandanus, a thin, saline scent that clings to clothing; sound is a repeated, hollow clack like cane striking water and a distant, throat-deep hum that vibrates the ribcage; temperature-wise it brings an unnatural chill, the kind that pricks the skin even in warm weather. Notes: it does not move like a mammal but slides, leaves trailing and reed-scrape patterns left on the bank where it has rested.
