Lore
Dragon is a massive, reptilian Cryptid/Beast whose presence reads like a landscape event: the air tastes of hot iron and ozone, and smoke-sweet sap where trees have been singed. Sound is dominated by a low, resonant rumble—part distant thunder, part locked wind—in which the clink of scales against stone can sometimes be teased out. Temperature around a dragon is noticeably higher than the surroundings; air shimmers, stones are warm to the touch, and embers may smoulder long after the creature has moved on. Field note: sightings are most often at twilight or dawn, when the creature's heat contrasts sharply with cooler air and the senses register its approach hours before sighting.

Field Notes
Observations
- A trail of scorched vegetation and a faint metallic, ozone scent lingering on the breeze; birds and small animals will often avoid the route.
Encounter Advice
- behavior: Primarily solitary and territorial; dragons select lairs—high crags, deep caverns, or river bends—that serve as thermal refuges and vantage points. They spend long stretches basking to regulate their warmth, patrol hunting grounds in slow, deliberate arcs, and will investigate disturbances near their domain before reacting aggressively. Many accumulate and guard objects and tokens over generations, though motives vary from curiosity to nesting habit.
- interaction: Approach with clear, unhurried purpose and from downwind where possible; avoid encroaching on a known lair. Offerings left at the edge of territory—shiny crafted tokens, recorded songs, or respectful words spoken aloud—are more effective than sudden gestures. Keep movements calm, avoid loud noises, and never attempt to seize an object from its hoard. If the dragon shows curiosity, withdraw slowly to allow it to decide whether to follow contact.
- offering: Small crafted tokens or trinkets with a clear provenance, songs or stories that acknowledge the creature's age and deeds, and respectful, non-threatening gifts placed at the boundary of its lair.
Abilities
- Worldforging BreathA single exhalation of enchanted flame that melts metal and stone, warps alloys, and leaves taken treasure cursed to bring ruin to its new owners.
- Hoardward CursePlaces an ancient, binding curse on its hoard so that stolen pieces bring misfortune, madness or slow decay to thieves and their descendants.
- Scale-Forge ArmourScales grown from its own breath harden like folded metal, shrugging off blades and blunting many magics that strike them.
- Stormwing GaleA beat of its wings can summon hurricane gales that unroof villages, topple armies, and scatter enemy formations.
- Pearl of DominionDraws mystical power from a luminous pearl or jewel at its throat, enabling rainfall, weather shaping, or deep sorceries tied to its lineage.
Weaknesses
- Unscaled UnderbellyA narrow gap of unarmoured skin beneath the forelimbs — a precise blade or spear strike there can fell even an ancient wyrm.
- Pearl RemovalIf the dragon's binding pearl is stolen or shattered, its magic falters and it becomes vulnerable to mundane wounds and banishment.
- Dragonbane SteelBlades forged with named rites or blessed in saintly/ancient dragon-slaying ceremonies cut through scales that normal iron cannot.
