Ifrit Lore & Origins

Ifrit is a towering fire-Jinn often recorded as Hostile — an elemental spirit that favours flame and shadow. Smell: brimstone and hot iron, a metallic tang that lingers long after the heat fades. Sound: low, crackling breath, a wind like pages blown in a locked room, sometimes a distant, mocking rumble. Temperature: an immediate, oppressive heat; the air near one shimmers and singes, though the being itself can be partially incorporeal and unnervingly thin where skin should be.

Classification: Jinn (Fire Spirit)

Ifrit Encounter Protocols & Field Notes

Observations
  • A sudden, localized surge of heat with the scent of sulfur and brief, bluish-black flickers where no flame should be.
Encounter Advice
  • avoidance: Do not attempt to approach or stare it down. Leave the area calmly and steadily; do not provoke with fire, challenges, or loud displays. Avoid making bargains or accepting gifts from unknown spirits.
  • defense: Create a barrier of water or damp earth between you and the presence; iron or steel implements are traditionally kept between self and Ifrit. If flight is impossible, place a circle of salt or scatter cold water to break its hold. In cultural contexts, calling on recognised protective prayers or guardianship rituals is advised; when available, retreat to sunlight or well-lit, populated places.
  • offering: If one must parley, neutral small offerings—unlit oil lamps, smoke-free incense, or cooling water left at a distance—are said to pacify tempers; offerings are best left to knowledgeable intermediaries.

Ifrit Abilities & Powers

  • Smokeless Emberform
Transforms into a living, smokeless flame that burns flesh and ritual protections alike while leaving no ordinary scorch to trace its passage.
  • Emberbrand Oath
Seals a forced oath by scorching a coal-mark into a victim's skin or soul, binding them with supernatural consequences if broken.
  • Ash-Forge Dominion
Shapes ash, slag and ruined metal into animated weapons or short-lived guardians under the Ifrit's volonté.
  • Smoke-Step
Slips through any smoke or ember-cloud to reappear elsewhere within a smoking field or ruin, bypassing physical barriers.

Weaknesses & How to Defeat the Ifrit

  • Solomonic Seal (Ring)
Binding by Solomon's seal or ring forces an Ifrit into servitude or imprisonment, overriding its will.
  • Scriptural Recitation
Recitation of certain Quranic verses or consecrated formulas repels, burns, or forces an Ifrit to flee or lose power.
  • Cold Water / Dousing
Being drenched or immersed in cold water disperses its emberform, severely weakening its magic and mobility.
