Kuntilanak

Kuntilanak is a hostile female spirit often sighted at dusk and through the deep night. In field terms she presents as an incorporeal presence: temperature drops are immediate and localised, breath fogs in otherwise warm air. Smell: a deceptive, heavy sweetness of frangipani/ketapang flowers that can dominate the air for a few heartbeats. Sound: the wail or whimper of an infant followed by a long, high-pitched keening and the whisper of long black hair brushing fabric or leaves. Temperature: an abrupt, bone-deep chill that lingers where she has passed. Observers consistently report a feeling of being watched and a tightening of the chest rather than direct pain—signs of an entity that prefers stealth and lure over open confrontation.
