Sundel Bolong

Sundel Bolong is a Hostile Spirit often described as the restless Ghost of a woman: a pale figure in a long, white gown, hair falling like a curtain, and a dark hollow where her back should be. She announces herself with an abrupt, bone-deep cold; the air takes on the perfume of old jasmine and smouldering incense mixed with damp earth; sound-wise, sightings are accompanied by a thin, wind-like lullaby or soft, sorrowful sobbing that seems to come from just behind you. Field notes: encounters cluster at dusk near lonely paths, abandoned houses, and burial grounds. Her presence compresses the air—voices fall away, and light seems to sink toward shadows.
