Buto Ijo

Buto Ijo is a Hostile Monster — a hulking, green-skinned ogre in Javanese tradition that moves through riverine forests like a living landslide. Field notes: skin matte and moss-streaked, muscles corded beneath a sheen of oil and river slime; breath warm with a hint of smoke and fermenting fruit. Smell: wet earth, crushed kencur (a sharp root scent), and the lingering tang of smoke. Sound: a low, timbering bellow that vibrates through the soil, the sharp crack of saplings, and the distant, irregular drum of enormous footsteps. Temperature: radiates a heavy, close heat, like standing beside a sun-baked boulder, enough to wilt nearby foliage and send insects scattering.
