White Snake

White Snake is a riverine Deity-spirit often remembered as a pale, serpentine presence that moves between water and human form. In the field she announces herself like the hour after rain: scent of wet stone and lotus, an undernote of camphor and old paper; sound like silk sliding across a table or a distant temple bell, with the occasional soft hiss just at the edge of hearing; temperature is cool and clammy, as if the air itself has borrowed the chill of deep water. Seen at dusk near bridges or willow-lined banks, she carries an uncanny stillness—no splash, only the whisper of reed and a pearly flash where scales catch moonlight.
